I don’t think you can be an informed knowledge management professional, information professional or a regular user of online information without paying attention to Google. Leaving the GMail controversy aside, Google is pushing the search envelope to such an extreme that Yahoo! and Microsoft are being forced to alter their strategies and reallocate resources. The most interesting recent development is the Yahoo! Content Acquisition Program. As Google becomes more robust, both from a searching and advertising perspective, the hurdle for existing and new entrants (Microsoft included) becomes higher and higher.
